This recipe for grilled drumsticks proves that premium flavor doesn’t require a premium budget, delivering mouthwatering results from one of the most economical cuts. The versatile sauce strikes a perfect balance between sweet honey and tangy barbecue that works equally well on everything from wings to kabobs to ribs.
Set a saucepan over medium-high heat. Place the paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, mustard, ketchup, honey, soy sauce, vinegar, vegetable oil, and water in the heated saucepan. Stir ingredients, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook and stir the sauce for about 5 minutes or until the sauce is bubbly and thick.
Remove the saucepan from the heat; set aside to cool. Divide the sauce: use half of the sauce to baste the chicken while grilling, and the other half to serve with the cooked chicken.
For the ChickenPrepare the grill with one side for direct heat (375º to 400º F) and the other for indirect heat (225º F). While the grill is preheating, coat the grill grates with oil. Grill drumsticks for 30 minutes starting on the direct heat side, flipping every 5 to 6 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165ºF. Finish the drumsticks over indirect heat, where you will generously baste the drumsticks with half of the sauce. Grill for 5 to 10 minutes until the sauce sets and caramelizes. Serve the chicken with the remaining reserved sauce.
